Guest testimonials for Railway Cottage
“Kim’s place was quiet and charming in the countryside. We loved looking out on cows and sheep grazing in the fields. The cottage was quaint and quirky - just my style. For some excitement, the trains whizzed by several times a day making the Railroad Cottage true to its name. We had a great stay.”

“Beautiful little cottage tucked away off the A9. Close enough to easily explore the surrounding area but far enough away for a peaceful, private stay. Our 4 year old loved being right on the train line and watching the trains past. 5mins from Kingussie and about 15mins to Aviemore. Great cottage for a family stay. Would happily go back.”

“This is our 4th visit to Railway cottage and it won’t be our last. It’s well placed for driving in to Aviemore, Newtonmore, Kincraig and Kingussie and there are walks you can do from the door. It’s a cosy and welcoming place to stay and very comfortable. There are lots of activities on the nearby estates including quad biking, horse riding, zip wires, canyoning, clay pigeon shooting and archery. Lots of good places to eat too.”

“Had a wonderful few days at the Railway Cottage with our two small kids. Beautiful decor, well equipped, and the log burner was a treat in the evenings. Everything shakes a little when the trains whizz by (only a few per day) but that’s all part of the fun. Brilliant location close to aviemore and lots of fun things to do nearby. Kim was a great host.”

“This is our second time visiting the Railway Cottage and we’ll definitely be back. This time we had two labradors and a 3 month old, and we found the cottage very well equipped with everything that we needed for a wonderful stay. We felt at home from the moment that we stepped through the door. The location is perfect for exploring the Cairngorms and the Belavil Estate across the road is absolutely stunning, offering endless paths for exploring!”

“Kim was a fantastic host, who replied instantly to all our questions. The cottage is perfect and pretty inside and the location is beautiful - every view is like a painting. Kim even kindly decorated the cottage for Christmas. This was my favorite Christmas ever. We will definitely be back.”

It was great seeing the trains go past, and they really didn’t bother us at all. The cottage is in a great location with easy access to Kingussie and Aviemore, and so many great things to in the area. Highly recommend.”

“Certainly the most authentic place I ever stayed: a real railway cottage, very cosy, an incredible view and the kids loved it when the trains made the whole house shiver! We will have great memories of the place although the nights were shorter then usual due to the Edinburgh train at 6h20 :D”

“We had a nice stay at The Railway cottage for my wife's 50th Birthday. There is plenty to do nearby and great walks. The trains didn't bother us and my son liked watching them go by , it was interesting itself. The cottage itself was beautiful, very cosy and well presented. The log burner was amazing and really added to the cosy feel of the living room once it got darker. The kitchen was well equipped and we were lucky on the day we arrived we were able to enjoy the outdoor barbecue and seating area as it was warm and dry. The wildlife around the area was fantastic and we spotted a few birds we hadn't seen before and the rabbits were great to watch. Would definitely return again. Thanks for hosting us in your fabulous cottage Kim.”

“Lovely cottage which would suit 4 but we were just two with our dogs. Decor is tasteful and comfortable and everything you need is there. The train is loud but stops at night til 645 ish. We couldn’t enjoy garden as too cold but I imagine it’s beautiful when warmer with the views, peace and fire pit.”

“The railway cottage is absolutely fantastic. Set in a beautiful place and the cottage is beautifully presented, i loved the underfloor heading. My kids loved watching the trains go past, so did the adults! The cottage is close to all the main activities in aviemore and Kim was a brilliant host. Couldn't recommended highly enough!!!”

“Railway Cottage....wow! Beautiful setting and an amazing home. So welcoming and homely. Had everything you need....and the bath, oh my! We stayed during the Christmas and New Year holidays so trains were not running to their usual timetable, so for us, no issues with them. The dogs tend to bark at most things and the trains never bothered them. Kim is lovely and welcoming and ensured we had a great stay. She was there if we needed anything. Cannot fault anything. It was the perfect stay for visiting the Cairngorms. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.”

“We absolutely loved Kim’s place it’s so beautiful and being opposite an RSPB reserve just topped it all off. We stayed with our two young kids and dog mac and all of us loved it. We would love to stay again”

“Fantastic stay at this incredibly charming and peaceful railway cottage. Highly recommend!”

“The cottage made for perfect base to explore our surroundings. It was clean and tidy when we arrived and it was nice and warm- that was without starting up the fire in the sitting room. The underfloor heating in the bathroom and kitchen is also an added bonus in the mornings. The cottage is very unique being so close to the railway line and passing trains, but whilst we stayed the trains only passed between 7am and 11pm- the first few times can still give you a fright but you soon got used to it. Didn’t get a chance to use the outdoor decking, bbq and fire pit but it looked well set up.”

“We booked Kim’s place for our parents to celebrate their 60th birthdays. Unfortunately covid meant the trip was delayed but Kim was so accommodating with everything and so helpful with rearranging the stay (a few times). Our parents loved Kim’s place and thoroughly enjoyed their stay in such a beautiful place. Kim had thought of every little detail. Would highly recommend!”

“The most beautiful cottage in a perfect setting. We had planned to visit The Highland Wildlife Park so looked for accommodation in the area. This could not have been anymore perfect. There was so much more to see and do within the surrounding area, just a walk or short drive away. The Highland Folk Museum is a must visit if you come to the area, and not far from Railway Cottage. The cottage itself was perfect. So comfortable and very much a home from home. It was such a joy to come back from a long day exploring, to start up a fire in the log burner and chill the evening away with family. Our two boys were especially taken by the neighbouring bulls, nicknamed by them, 'Barry', 'Bobby' and 'Billy'. Do not hesitate! Book a stay at Railway Cottage. You won't regret it.”

“Thanks Kim for a wonderful stay. My husband and I were saying that we’ve never stayed anywhere where the whole family were so relaxed. We almost didn’t want to go out!”

“A stunning and cosy cottage surrounded by mountains. What more could you ask for. A perfect place to get away from it all. The cottage is beautifully decorated and designed, well equipped and so relaxing. We had fun trips to the Wildlife park, Rothiemurchus and Aviemore and our daughter loved the neighbouring animals and trains whizzing by. Will definitely be back and recommending to friends and family!”

“Lovely little cottage! Great outdoor space and everything you could possibly need for a wonderful weekend away. Nice walks nearby too!”
Sarah-Jane, 24/03/22
“Lovely weekend was spent in the cottage with the log burner keeping us all cosy during the snow we had when there. The cottage is in an excellent state of repair, no draughty windows. Freshly decorated and clean everywhere with lovely furnishings. The trains going by caused great amusement depending on how high any of us would jump! But yes, you do get used to it pretty quickly. The underfloor heating in the bathroom especially was a treat we enjoyed. Kim is a great host. Responds quickly to any questions asked. Thoughtfully, she made sure outside lights were left on to aid our arrival too. All in all a place we would return to in a heartbeat!”

“The Railway Cottage was a beautiful “base” to explore the Cairngorms from (though it was far more than simply a base for us!) It was clean and oh so comfortable and cosy. Evening fires, deep bubble baths and toasty underfloor heating to warm our tootsies made it such a happy and welcoming place to flop; especially after a long day exploring and adventuring in the snow. It had everything we needed and more and the decor was beautiful (our daughter now has her heart set on a pink ceiling at home!) It felt like a gem to find such a wonderful cottage. The trains weren’t an issue for us and our little one was over the Moon when the Tesco train tooted for her as she waited one afternoon! We loved the bulls and sheep and very funny pheasants next door too - so much wildlife to enjoy, especially with the RSPB’s marshes on the other side of the tracks that we could watch from the sofa! Don’t get us started on the view of the mountains - absolutely unreal! Kim was so helpful and communicative throughout our stay, which was hugely appreciated. She was a fantastic host for us. Returning to London with absolute joy and happiest memories tucked away in our hearts. This trip was tonic for our souls and although we’re very sad to leave, I have a sneaky feeling it won’t be long until we’re back! Thank you so much for having us.”
